“In an effort to salvage what is left of Jakarta before it’s inevitable sinking, the people of Jakarta have been left to question the significance of the city. Bearing the weight of historical importance, Jakarta is a city that refuses to be erased and forgotten from the world, but what can the people do when the government has been turning a blind eye to the issue? When modernization is too far gone to look its people in the eye?

The uncertainty of Jakarta’s future looms over every Jakartans’ heads. This personal project aims to explore the feeling of slow-simmering grief, the immeasurable weight of time, and the coping that comes with losing your home.”
